In a significant milestone for the Indian aluminium industry, Vedanta Aluminium, the nation's leading producer, has taken the lead in receiving the prestigious Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its aluminium wire rods and rolled products (sheets. plates and strips) as the government's new quality regulations come into effect.
The BIS certification covers products manufactured at both Vedanta's BALCO facility in Chhattisgarh and its Jharsuguda unit in Odisha, reinforcing the company's position as an industry leader committed to quality and innovation.
The mandatory BIS certification, introduced by the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Ministry of Mines, is part of a broader regulatory framework to ensure quality control across aluminium and aluminium alloy products. The regulation, announced on August 31, 2023, came with a September 26, 2024, deadline for all producers to comply.
Vedanta Aluminium has successfully met the deadline, securing BIS certification for a comprehensive range of products, including 12 mm wire rods, rolled sheets, conductor plates, rolled plates, EC ingots, alloy ingots, and primary ingots. This comprehensive certification underscores Vedanta's commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards across its product line.
Vedanta Aluminium holds BIS certification for a wide range of aluminium products, including 12 mm wire rods, rolled sheets, rolled conductor plates, rolled plates, EC ingots, alloy ingots, and primary ingots, all of which cater to various engineering and industrial purposes. The company now boasts seven BIS certifications across 17 products, giving it a competitive edge in both domestic and international markets.
Commenting on this achievement, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vedanta Aluminium, said: "The government's mandate for the certification is in the right direction to ensure India produces and consumes high-quality aluminium.
