A 24-foot long bell tower by the Veterans for Peace organisation members had been constructed using recycled aluminium cans. Built in 2014, the building promotes peace and has been on exhibit at many locations, including Washington, D.C., the capital of the USA. The aluminium can bell tower is a replica of the iconic North Carolina State University Memorial Belltower in Hillsborough St, Raleigh, a World War I peace memorial.
{alcircleadd}People passing by the aluminium can bell tower engrave messages and names on recycled aluminium cans, and more than 1000 messages have been collected. The 24-foot tower contains hundreds of tales, and one can hear the plaques swaying as the wind blows.
“[It was] made by a Vietnam veteran. There are sad stories about people who just came back. Everybody affected by war. One story will remind me of another story. They are, many times, moved to tears. They realise they are not alone and that wars have no winners. On all sides, there are costs,” said Roger Ehrlich, an associate member of the Veterans for Peace organisation.
