Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), strategically located on India's East Coast, has ushered in the New Year with a remarkable achievement, underscoring its growth momentum. The port, a cornerstone in Visakhapatnam's transformation from a modest fishing village into a bustling metropolis, has reached a historic milestone by handling 60.28 million tonnes of cargo during the first three quarters of 2024-25.
{alcircleadd}This milestone surpasses its previous record of 59.73 million tonnes achieved in 2023-24 and sets a new benchmark in VPA's illustrious 91-year journey. Formerly known as Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), VPA continues to solidify its reputation as a key driver of progress and economic development in the region.
VPA Chairman Dr M. Angamuthu stated on December 31, 2024, "It's a significant turnaround performance for the port with improvement in key performance indicators (KPI)."
"The New Year (2025) will be challenging, and they intend to bring alternate cargoes like manganese, bauxite, and fertilizers."
Dr Angamuthu emphasised that VPA will significantly enhance its operational efficiency with advancements in mechanical and engineering capabilities. The authority is actively adopting transformative changes based on insights and recommendations from renowned consulting firms. The primary focus is ensuring faster and more cost-effective cargo evacuation by aligning its techno-economic parameters with global standards, fostering a more competitive and seamless experience for stakeholders.
The VPA Chairman lauded the team's relentless efforts, "This historic achievement underscores Visakhapatnam Port's standing as a pivotal gateway for India's trade. It reflects our unwavering dedication to modernisation and sustainability, aligning with India's vision for port-led economic growth."
