Viva launches lightweight aluminium composite panels for safer Indian bus bodies

Viva ACP, Asia's leading manufacturer of metal composite panels, has introduced advanced Aluminium Composite Panels (ACPs) designed to enhance the safety and performance of bus bodies in India. This initiative resulted from the stricter regulations the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways implemented for bus construction, emphasising improvements in passenger safety and vehicle quality.

These new ACPs from Viva offer several advantages, including reduced vehicle weight, improved fuel efficiency, and superior overall performance. The lightweight panels also comply with the Ministry's latest safety standards, aiding manufacturers in meeting the updated regulations.

As the Indian electric bus market is set for rapid growth, fuelled by government initiatives, Viva ACP's panels are strategically positioned to support this transition. The company has partnered with Tata Motors Body Solutions on electric buses for Bangalore's Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

Mayank Jain, Director of Viva Composite Panel, said, “Our state-of-the-art Aluminium Composite Panels are not just about enhancing performance—they represent our promise to lead with integrity, drive positive change, and contribute to a greener future for the industry. We are excited to collaborate with bus manufacturers and industry stakeholders to achieve these transformative goals.'

The demand for aluminium in the automotive industry is expected to surge by 15-27 per cent, driven by the growing prevalence of electric vehicles (EVs). Enhancing the fuel efficiency of contemporary automobiles while upholding safety and performance relies significantly on integrating advanced materials.

The principle lies in the fact that it requires less energy to propel a lighter object compared to a heavier one, thus presenting a substantial opportunity for augmenting vehicle efficiency. A mere 10 per cent reduction in vehicle weight can yield a notable 6 per cent-8 per cent improvement in fuel economy.
