World alumina production declines 2.6% M-o-M but increases 6.9% on year to stand at 11.598 MT: IAI

In April 2021, world alumina production stood at 11.598 million tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month downfall of 2.63 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute's data. In March, the output amounted to 11.911 million tonnes, climbing 2.59 per cent from 10.610 million tonnes in February 2021. In January, the output came in at 11.737 million tonnes.

In the first four months of the year, alumina production across the world totalled 45.856 million tonnes – 5.12 per cent higher than 43.623 million tonnes during the same period last year.

On a year-on-year calculation, world alumina production in April 2021 stood 6.90 per cent higher than 10.849 million tonnes.

In Africa & Asia (ex-China), alumina production in April totalled 1.112 million tonnes, up 3.54 per cent month-on-month from 1.074 million tonnes and 9.82 per cent year-on-year from 978,000 tonnes.

During January-April 2021, alumina output in Africa & Asia (ex-China) stood at 4.257 million tonnes, up by 4.70 per cent from 4.066 million tonnes a year ago.

China, the largest producer of aluminium ore in the world, produced 6.184 million tonnes of alumina in April 2021, which registered a downfall of 3.22 per cent from 6.390 million tonnes in March. On a year-on-year basis, the output in April recorded an increase of 10.23 per cent from 5.610 million tonnes.

In the first four months of 2021, China’s alumina production amounted to 24.514 million tonnes – 8.52 per cent higher than 22.590 million tonnes during the same period last year.

In the Oceania region, alumina production in April 2021 stood at 1.764 million tonnes, which brought the total output during the first four months of the year to 6.903 million tonnes.
