The world alumina production in the June quarter (Q2) of 2022 totalled 35.034 million tonnes, seeing an increase of 5.79 per cent from 33.118 million tonnes during 1Q2022, found the International Aluminium Institute. But on a year-on-year basis, the world alumina output in Q2 stood 1.17 per cent lower than 35.450 million tonnes.
{alcircleadd}In June 2022, the alumina output across the world amounted to 11.6 million tonnes, down by 3.8 per cent from 12.058 million tonnes a month ago and 1.24 per cent lower than 11.746 million tonnes a year earlier.
In the entire first half of the year, world alumina production came in at 68.152 million tonnes – 1.79 per cent less than 69.393 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
China, being the world’s largest producer of alumina, churned out 6.706 million tonnes in June 2022, which fell month-on-month by 3.23 per cent from 6,930 million tonnes in May. On a year-on-year basis, the output edged 3.01 per cent higher than 6.510 million tonnes.
In Q2 2022, China’s alumina production totalled 20.026 million tonnes versus 17.8 million tonnes in Q1 2022 and 19.37 million tonnes in Q2 2021. In the first six months of the year, China’s alumina output amounted to 37.826 million tonnes, slightly up by 0.28 per cent from 37.720 million tonnes a year ago.
In the Oceania region, alumina production in June 2022 stood at 1.645 million tonnes, shrinking by 4.86 per cent from 1.729 million tonnes in May. On a yearly basis, the output slipped by 6.85 per cent from 1.766 million tonnes.
Oceania’s alumina production in the June quarter was 5.044 million tonnes, down by 2.89 per cent from 5.194 million tonnes in the March quarter. Compared to 5.393 million tonnes in Q2 2021, Oceania’s output in the same quarter this year stood 6.47 per cent lower. In H1 2022, Oceania’s total alumina production amounted to 10.238 million tonnes versus 10.532 million tonnes a year earlier.
