The world alumina production in December 2021 stood at 11.629 million tonnes, which reflected a month-on-month growth of 3.86 per cent, found the International Aluminium Institute. In November, the output came in at 11.197 million tonnes, down by 1.37 per cent from 11.353 million tonnes in October.
On a year-on-year calculation, the world alumina production in December 2021 stood 0.56 per cent higher than 11.694 million tonnes.
During October-December (Q4 2021), the world alumina production amounted to 34.179 million tonnes, down by 1.07 per cent from 34.550 million tonnes in Q3 2021 but up by 0.98 per cent from 34.513 million tonnes in Q4 2020.
In the entire year of 2021, the world alumina production totalled 138.122 million tonnes, 3.79 per cent more than 133.078 million tonnes a year ago.
China, being the world’s largest alumina producer, produced 6.288 million tonnes in December 2021, up by 3.08 per cent from 6.1 million tonnes a month ago and 1.42 per cent higher than 6.2 million tonnes a year earlier.
In Q4, China’s alumina production stood at 18.532 million tonnes, down by 1.9 per cent from 18.890 million tonnes in Q3 2021 and 0.53 per cent less than 18.630 million tonnes in Q4 2020. Total production in the year amounted to 75.142 million tonnes, up by 5.82 per cent from 71.010 million tonnes in 2020.
In the Oceania region, alumina production in December 2021 stood at 1.741 million tonnes, up by 2.96 per cent from 1.691 million tonnes in November but down by 5.74 per cent year-on-year from 1.847 million tonnes. In Q4, alumina production in Oceania was at 5.142 million tonnes, down by 2.28 per cent from 5.262 million tonnes in Q3 2021 and 5.91 per cent from 5.465 million tonnes in Q4 2020.
In 2021, the Oceania region’s total alumina output came in at 20.936 million tonnes, compared to 21.171 million tonnes in 2020.
The world’s daily average alumina production in December 2021 stood at 375,100 tonnes, 0.51 per cent more than 373,200 tonnes in November.
