In 2021, the total primary aluminium produced in Western and Central Europe registered 3.329 million tonnes, while in 2022, it was 2.913 million tonnes, down 416,000 tonnes or 12.49 per cent Year-on-Year. Western and Central Europe amounted to 4.22 per cent of the total world aluminium production in 2022.
As per the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) data, the world's primary aluminium production stood at 67.092 million tonnes in 2021, which heightened by 1.946 million tonnes or 2.9 per cent to arrive at 69.038 million tonnes in 2022.
{alcircleadd}In H1 2023, world aluminium production officiated at 34.464 million tonnes, which is almost 50 per cent of the annual production in 2022. This means if the acceleration continues, by the end of this year, last year's milestone will be achieved. On the other hand, primary aluminium produced in Western and Central Europe marked an accumulation of 1.345 tonnes in H1 2023, indicating a linear growth this year when compared with the last. Western and Central Europe resulted in 3.9 per cent of the global aluminium production in H1 2023.
In Q1 2023, the total aluminium production in Western and Central Europe was 669,000 tonnes, which increased by 7,000 tonnes or 1.05 per cent in Q2 2023 to reach 676,000 tonnes.
In August this year, the total aluminium produced in Western and Central Europe was 230,000 tonnes, with a Year-on-Year downfall of 20,000 tonnes or 8 per cent from 250,000 tonnes recorded in 2022. If we consider May, the total collection was 229,000 tonnes, which experienced a Quarter-on-Quarter hike of 1,000 tonnes or 0.44 per cent.
On a Month-on-Month basis, the primary aluminium production in Western and Central Europe has maintained stagnancy, as the total haul in July 2023 was 230,000 tonnes as well.
The total primary aluminium produced by Russia and Eastern Europe was 4.139 million tonnes in 2022, which slumped by 58,000 tonnes or 1.42 per cent to reach 4.081 million tonnes in 2022. In comparison, H1 2023 has registered only 1.993 million tonnes of total aluminium production in the area, which is not close to half of last year's annual collection. Russia and Eastern Europe amounted to 5.9 per cent of the world aluminium production in 2022.
In Q1 2023, the total aluminium production in Russia and Eastern Europe was 997,000 tonnes, which decreased by 1,000 tonnes or 0.1 per cent in Q2 2023 to reach 996,000 tonnes.
In August 2022, the total aluminium produced in Russia and Eastern Europe was 350,000 tonnes, which was down 3.43 per cent or 12,000 tonnes Year-on-Year to arrive at 338,000 tonnes in August 2023. On a Month-on-Month scale, a slight inclination of 0.3 per cent or 1,000 tonnes was witnessed because, in July 2023, the collection was 337,000 tonnes. Lastly, on a Quarter-on-Quarter basis, there has been a brief fall of 2,000 tonnes or 0.59 per cent from 340,000 tonnes in May 2023 to 338,000 tonnes in August 2023.
