Wold Top Brewery, an East Yorkshire-based beverage company, has made a significant investment in a new canning line and launched its first canned beer, Wild Swim, a 4 per cent ABV lager. Crafted by brewer Henry Culpepper, Wild Swim is a 4% alcohol, comes in aluminium packaging and features a stripped-back, clean, and refreshing lager, marking the brewery's debut in the canned beer market.
Throughout 2024, the brewery plans to unveil a series of six limited-edition canned beers, with Wild Swim leading the way. Supplied by the British company MicroCan, the canning line at Wold Top Brewery boasts an impressive capacity of up to 2000 aluminium cans per hour.
Brewery director Alex Balchin said, "Our contract customers have been asking us to provide a canned beer packaging service for quite a while, but we had to weigh up all the options before we invested. We have a strong and loyal fan base of bottle drinkers and wanted to ensure that we didn't marginalise any other area of the business. By introducing cans as a seasonal, limited edition line, we aim to develop strong markets for both forms of packaging."
This substantial investment of £100,000 received backing from the Farming Sustainability Fund, which is aimed at bolstering rural and farm-based businesses. Carrot Juice Creative, a brand consultancy based in Leeds, expertly crafted the eye-catching can designs.
