Dr Winfred Nii Okai Hammond, Ghana's Ambassador to China, has expressed appreciation towards Zonda Tec Ghana Limited and Shantui Construction Machinery Co. Ltd for their initiative in establishing a training centre. This centre aims to offer practical training opportunities for the youth of Ghana, specifically in the field of heavy-duty vehicle assembly and maintenance.
{alcircleadd}Dr Hammond addressed attendees at a ceremony held in Tema on Monday, April 15, 2024, marking the commencement of a collaborative venture between Zonda Tec Ghana Limited and Shantui Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. This partnership aimed to facilitate the distribution of Shantui's machinery range within Ghana.
The initiative was anticipated to broaden access to Shantui Construction Machinery Co. Ltd's products and services across key sectors in Ghana. As part of the agreement, provisions were made to establish a service centre and a trucks-assembling unit. These facilities would cater to bulldozers, road rollers, loaders, and excavators and offer spare parts.
In an effort to reduce unemployment, Wilfred Nii Okai Hammond pledged his support for expanding investments.
"Ever since I went to China, I have seen some good work they are doing there, and I think we can replicate the same here in Ghana. I am sure with the help of the Ghana Bauxite Company, some of these trucks can be acquired to help the economy at large," he said.
Dr Hammond commended the partnership between Zonda Tec Ghana Limited and Shantui, both subsidiaries of Shandong Heavy Industry in China. He praised their investment in Ghana and highlighted their contribution to job creation, capacity enhancement, and the transfer of technology and knowledge to support the nation's economy.
He also commended Zonda Tec Ghana Limited and Shantui for their commitment to empowering young people in the country. He emphasised that such private-sector initiatives play a crucial role in tackling unemployment.
Ms Yang Yang, the Chief Executive of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, highlighted that the partnership aims to provide comprehensive vehicle sales and after-sales services to both current and prospective Shantui vehicle owners in Ghana.
"We are poised to support the youth in Ghana in getting more skills and jobs. Zonda Tec Ghana Limited has been supporting the country by providing good trucks for the mining sector of the economy", she stressed.
Ms Yang Yang mentioned that Zonda Tec Ghana Limited has already established an assembly plant and an automobile technical institute to train artisans and mechanics in industrial best practices. This aligns with the government's agenda to enhance local industries. Furthermore, the partnership with Shantui presents an additional opportunity to train more individuals through technology transfer.
She added that with Shantui machinery now available in Ghana, the company has deployed engineers from China to impart practical skills to Ghanaian youth in maintaining bulldozers, motor graders, road rollers, and other heavy-duty vehicles. This knowledge transfer contributes to job creation and fosters industrialisation in line with government objectives.
