After the introduction by Walter Dalla Barba, Interall and Aluminium Two Thousand president, the plenary session will dive right into hot topics for the aluminium industry, but not only. Mario Conserva, FACE (Federation of Aluminium Consumers in Europe) General Manager, will talk about “Decarbonisation and its impact on the use of aluminium for e-mobility”. Professor Carmine Garzia (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) will follow with his presentation on “Global economic outlook. The evolution of manufacturing and building sectors”.

In the afternoon, one of the three parallel sessions will open with Andreas Schiffl (Hammerer Aluminium Industries Extrusion GmbH, Austria) and his paper “Influence of gas oven temperature on the microstructure and extrudability of Al-Mg-Si aluminium alloys”. Nikolay Biba (Managing Director at MICAS Simulations Ltd, UK) will follow the coffee break with his speech on “Automated optimum extrusion die design and profile quality control based on simulation”.

These are just a few of the 16 papers that will follow one another during this first day, covering both specialised and broader topics, like market analysis of various Countries. Here are the areas which will be explored through the three days of Congress: Extrusion, Foundry, casting and die-casting, Anodizing, coating and surface treatments, Markets and strategies, Welding, Alloys, New alloys, Service and maintenance, Billets and relative equipment, Lamination technologies, Architecture and special uses, Transportation and automotive industry, Process simulation, Process Quality, Process Management, Process monitoring, Process innovation, Nanotechnologies, Automation, Measuring and testing, and Advanced research application.

A special focus will be placed on the application of nanotechnologies to the field of aluminium, to new light alloys and their applications, and special technologies for ecology and “zero discharge”, all introduced by prominent industry names.

Furthermore, on Friday, attendees will have the chance to join an anodizing workshop, “Microstructural considerations on base metals for anodizing aluminium”, by J. M. Runge, CompCote International Inc., USA.

Finally, to ensure a pleasant stay in Bologna, every day will have its dose of entertainment, with a gala dinner, a classical concert, a technical tour, daily activities for accompanying people and a beautiful, final tour through the historical surroundings of Bologna, including Ravenna, capital of the Roman Empire from 408 to 476.
