Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced that ARZYZ, S.A. DE C.V. has been certified against the ASI Performance Standard V3 with Provisional status. The facilities’ combined annual production capacity is approximately 240,000 tonnes of aluminium alloys, supplying industries such as automotive, building and construction, packaging, and electronics.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V3 and ASI CoC Standard V2 were launched in May 2022 following a multi-year revision process. The ASI Performance Standard V3 defines 11 principles and 62 criteria under three sustainability pillars – Environment, Social, and Governance – with the aim to address pressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, circularity, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Provisional Certification serves as a strategic and flexible approach for aluminium sector actors to gain access to ASI’s sustainability standards framework, learn, and improve their practices over a defined period. It provides an opportunity for Members to commence their ASI Certification journey, while requiring a commitment to move towards Full Certification as soon as is practically possible.

The independent, third-party audit of ARZYZ, S.A. DE C.V. was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd. A full listing of audit findings is available in the summary audit reports, linked below. Two major non-conformances were identified under Criteria 5.3a-e GHG Emissions Reduction Plans and 5.4 GHG Emissions Management, resulting in a Certification with Provisional status of one year. ARZYZ, S.A. DE C.V. will be implementing corrective actions, to be verified in a follow-up audit. DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd. approved the corrective action plans for the Major non-conformances prior to submission of the audit report to ASI.
