China’s domestic alumina price reaches a new high in two years; A00 aluminium ingot price gains RMB180/t

According to the Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), China’s average alumina price has again gained RMB 4 per tonne after the three consecutive days of restraint. With the latest rise, the price has reached a new high in two years at RMB 3,942 per tonne, marking a week-on-week increase of RMB 10 per tonne and a month-on-month rise of about RMB 38 per tonne.

In key regions like Henan and Shanxi, the increase is even higher, with prices up by RMB 10 per tonne to RMB 3,935 per tonne in Henan and RMB 3,960 per tonne, respectively. This rise follows a significant period of price stability and has implications for the overall aluminium market. The prices have remained unchanged in other regions like Guizhou and Guangxi, averaging at RMB 3,935 per tonne and RMB 3,955 per tonne, respectively.

A00 aluminium ingot price

China’s A00 aluminium ingot price on the Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) has surged by RMB 180 per tonne to balance out the market condition after four consecutive days of decline. The current price of primary aluminium ingot has thus derived at RMB 19,340 per tonne, with average prices to range between RMB 19,320 per tonne and RMB 19,360 per tonne. The spot contract is expected to be traded at a discount price of RMB 30 per tonne to RMB 10 per tonne.

However, increase in A00 aluminium ingot price on September 10 has failed to offset the W-o-W fall. Compared to September 3, the current price is down by RMB 150 per tonne from RMB 19,490 per tonne, found SMM.

The average price of low-carbon aluminium has also heightened by RMB 187 per tonne to RMB 20,216 per tonne, while the prices of high-purity aluminium (99.99% and 99.996%) have escalated by RMB 200 per tonne to peg at RMB 26,400 per tonne and RMB 27,400 per tonne, respectively.

Region-wise prices

The average A00 aluminium ingot price has ascended across all the provinces of China, marking the highest increase of RMB 190 per tonne in Foshan province to RMB 19250 per tonne. In Hangzhou, Chongqing and Shenyang provinces, the prices are up by RMB 160 per tonne, bringing to RMB 19340 per tonne in Hangzhou and RMB 19,320 per tonne in Chongqing and Shenyang. In provinces like Gongyi and Tianjin, the average price has ascended by RMB 180 per tonne to clock at RMB 19,410 per tonne and RMB 19,390 per tonne, respectively. Wuxi and Linyi province have experienced an expansion of RMB 170 per tonne in the ingot price to RMB 19340 per tonne and RMB 19390 per tonne.

Aluminium alloy prices

Among all the popular grades of aluminium alloys, aluminium alloy (A360) price has scaled up by RMB 200 per tonne to exceed the RMB 20,000 per tonne level. With the latest hike, the price has come in at RMB 20,050 per tonne, with average prices to range between RMB 19,950 per tonne and RMB 20,150 per tonne.

Aluminium alloy (A356) price has also soared by RMB 200 per tonne to stand at RMB 19,800 per tonne on September 10, with average prices to hover around RMB 19,600-20,000 per tonne. Aluminium alloys (ADC12) price has experienced a relatively slower increase of RMB 50 per tonne to amount to RMB 20,100 per tonne on the same day.

The uprising in averages aluminium ingot price is basically due to balancing the market sentiment and to recover the loss in price from the previous few days.
