Primary aluminium output at Pavlodar-based Kazakhstan Aluminium Smelter (KAS), owned by Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), a leading diversified natural resources group and the only producer of high-grade aluminium in Kazakhstan, has reached the four-million-tonnes milestone since the start of production.
{alcircleadd}Shukhrat Ibragimov, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eurasian Resources Group said, “In 2024, we have achieved further successes at KAS, including increasing the efficiency of the electrolysis process and setting new production records, and today we are already celebrating a new achievement as aluminium output has reached the four-million-tonne mark. I would like to congratulate the whole team on reaching this historic milestone. The work of our metallurgists is strategically important, and one of the top-priority investment projects for ERG in the coming years is focused on capacity expansion in our aluminium division and making high-value-added products. These include building the second module of the KAS and expanding the range of downstream products, from foil and rolled aluminium to finished goods.”
As of year-end 2024, KAS has a production capacity of 264,500 tonnes of primary aluminium. The 4 million tonnes of aluminium produced by the enterprise over the years would be enough to pave a road from Pavlodar to Moscow or could fill a train of 65,000 cars.
“The construction of the country’s first plant to produce aluminium is a landmark event in the history of Kazakhstan. In addition to developing the enterprise itself, we have established an integrated aluminium production cluster covering all stages, from ore mining at the Krasno-Oktyabrskoye and Torgayskoye Bauxite Mining Units and at the Keregetas limestone mine to alumina production and the manufacture of the light metal, which is used for aircraft. Today, KAS is not just Kazakhstan’s only producer of A-8 and A-85 high-grade primary aluminium certified by the London Metal Exchange, but also a modern, innovative enterprise that the whole country is proud of,” commented Shukhrat Ibragimov.
KAS employs more than 2,000 people and supplies aluminium to over 20 countries in the CIS, Europe, and Asia. Kazakhstan, Turkey, Poland, Greece, and Italy are key sales destinations.
