Rimowa introduces its first aluminium crossbody handbag, a mini version of its original suitcase

Rimowa, the renowned luxury luggage brand from Cologne with over a century of history, has long been celebrated for its dedication to innovation and sustainability. Known for revolutionising the use of aluminium and polycarbonate in its iconic suitcases, Rimowa has now introduced its first unisex handbag, the Original Bag.

Outlook of the handbag

The Rimowa Original Bag immediately stands out with its signature design elements: the iconic grooved pattern, a seamless colour-matched finish, and rounded reinforced corners. Conceptually similar to the Personal case, the Original Bag is essentially a scaled-down version of the original suitcase but with updated features tailored for handbag use.

It is crafted from aluminium with a leather handle reinforced by an aluminium frame, ensuring both comfort and durability. The bag also includes a branded webbing strap, offering versatility as it can be worn as a shoulder bag or crossbody.

Innovative button mechanism for effortless use

Given that the Original suitcase's locking mechanism wouldn’t be practical for a handbag, Rimowa has introduced a new button mechanism for the Original Bag. This innovative feature allows for easy opening and closing, addressing the inconvenience of traditional suitcase locks. Additionally, instead of the original suitcase's handle mechanism that snaps down with a satisfying clack, the handbag's top handle is designed to remain upright for easy access. However, it can also lay flat for a sleeker profile when not in use.

The aluminium handbag is lined with luxurious Italian-made leather and features a spacious compartment. Thoughtful details include a zipped pocket and card slots, providing ample room for daily essentials. This launch marks a new chapter for RIMOWA, with the Original Bag representing just the beginning of their continued evolution.
