RUSAL, the world's largest aluminium producer, conducted a comprehensive assessment of 150 companies — suppliers of key raw materials and resources. This was reported by the company's press service.
{alcircleadd}This year, a pilot supplier assessment was carried out using the "Supplier's Personal Account" information and analytics system developed in 2023.
"Responsible supply chains play a critical role in ensuring sustainable development and minimising negative environmental impact. Engaging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in this process contributes to supply diversification, increases innovation, and creates new jobs. SMEs often possess flexibility and adaptability, enabling them to respond quickly to changes in demand and consumer preferences. RUSAL integrates small businesses into the agenda, offering access to a knowledge base and technology and enabling them to adapt to modern sustainability requirements," said Elena Myakotnikova, RUSAL's Director of Sustainable Development.
As the company emphasises, creating sustainable supply chains for raw materials, goods, and services is one of 12 business transformation projects under the company's sustainability strategy through 2035.
"The project includes the development of the 'Supplier's Personal Account' information and analytics system to assess the maturity of counterparties' sustainability practices, the introduction of mandatory ESG accreditation for all suppliers of raw materials, goods, and services by 2035, and the organisation of ESG training for procurement professionals and supplier representatives," the company's press materials state.
Next year, the company plans to continue improving suppliers' ESG accreditation, taking into account external methodologies and ESG assessment tools.
