According to the Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), the average alumina spot price has skyrocketed by RMB 18 per tonne to clock at RMB 3,993 per tonne. This significant growth in China’s domestic alumina price highlights the growing demand for alumina to support the increased production of primary aluminium. All major regions like Shandong, Henan, and Guizhou have experienced price hike. In Henan and Guizhou regions, the average price stands at RMB 4,010 per tonne and RMB 3,975 per tonne, both ascending by RMB 25 per tonne. Also, the price has soared by RMB 10 per tonne in Shandong and Guanxi regions, averaging at RMB 3,960 per tonne and RMB 3,965 per tonne, respectively.
Likewise, the average A00 aluminium ingot price has experienced a slight increase from the previous day. On September 19, the price ascended by RMB 40 per tonne, reaching RMB 19,830 per tonne. However, the price also remains on a downward trend compared to the same day three months ago, showing a decline of RMB 570 per tonne from RMB 20,400 per tonne on June 19. The average prices as of today are estimated to range between RMB 19,810 per tonne and RMB 19,850 per tonne, with spot contract to be traded at a discount price of RMB 70 per tonne to RMB 30 per tonne with an average of RMB 50 per tonne.
China’s domestic low-carbon aluminium price has surged by RMB 33 per tonne to peg at RMB 20,668 per tonne. The prices for high-purity aluminium (99.99% and 99.996%) have remained the same at RMB 26,800 per tonne and RMB 27,800 per tonne, respectively.
Region-wise analysis:
All the major Chinese provinces have experienced the same trend in aluminium ingot prices with the highest increase in Wuxi province by RMB 50 per tonne to officiate at RMB 19,830 per tonne. The prices have improved by RMB 40 per tonne in Hangzhou and Tianjin provinces, settling at RMB 19,830 per tonne and RMB 19,780 per tonne. The average price is up by RMB 20 per tonne in Gongyi, Chongqing and Shenyang provinces, standing at RMB 19,760 per tonne and RMB 19,740 per tonne. In Foshan, the average price increased by RMB 30 per tonne, with an average of RMB 19,700 per tonne. In Linyi, the price has been added RMB 20 per tonne to settle at RMB 19,780 per tonne.
Primary aluminium input costs:
Among primary aluminium raw materials, China’s imported and domestic bauxite prices have continued to remain restrained at US$ 76.61 per tonne and RMB 640 per tonne, respectively.
Aluminium alloy ingot prices:
Aluminium alloy (A356), alloy (380) and alloy (A360) price have ascended by RMB 50 per tonne on September 19 to peg at RMB 20,300 per tonne, RMB 21,450 per tonne and RMB 20,550 per tonne, with average prices to range between RMB 20,100 per tonne to RMB 20,500 per tonne, RMB 21,350 per tonne to RMB 21,550 per tonne and RMB 20,450 per tonne to RMB 20,650 per tonne, respectively.
However, aluminium alloys ingot (ADC12) has changed in all the regions except for the northeast region, where the price stands at RMB 20,400 per tonne, the same from the previous day. But in the east and south regions, the price has escalated by RMB 50 per tonne to stand at RMB 20450 per tonne in both regions and in the southwest region, the price has ascended by RMB 100 per tonne to peg at RMB 20500 per tonne.
