Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has certified Alcoa’s three facilities in San Ciprián (Spain), Fjardaál (Iceland), and Lista (Norway) with its Performance Standard Certification. The facilities' activities include alumina refining, aluminium smelting, producing aluminium sows, ingots, and T-bars, manufacturing aluminium rod, and developing and producing aluminium extrusion ingots, foundry metal, and anode briquette.
{alcircleadd}The facilities have grabbed the certificate for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. In July 2019, ASI Performance Standard Certification was given to Alcoa’s San Ciprián facility for its aluminium smelting operations and now it has been extended to its alumina refining activities.
Alcoa’s Fjardaál aluminium smelter and casthouse, on the other hand, has received Provisional Certification under the ASI Interim Policy, while the Lista aluminium smelter and casthouse has received full Certficiation.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We congratulate Alcoa on these three ASI Performance Standard Certifications in Europe, which extend the company’s certifications to 13 sites, including three bauxite mines, five alumina refineries and five aluminum smelters and casthouses. These new certifications demonstrate Alcoa’s continuing strong leadership in supporting ASI’s mission to create a more responsible aluminium value chain.”
“Alcoa has a strategic priority to advance sustainably, which includes financial, environmental and social outcomes, and our progress toward validating responsible production is a reflection of our commitment,” said Rosa García Pineiro, Vice President of Sustainability for Alcoa. “We congratulate our employees at these European locations for their work in earning this certification and operating with excellence.”
The independent, third-party audits of the Alcoa facilities were carried out by DNV GL.
