EDITED BY : 1MINS READ

On 30th August, the apex body representing the entire spectrum of the Indian Aluminium Industry, Aluminium Association of India (AAI) seeks intervention of the government-owned coal mining and refining corporation, CIL to normalise the uncertain situation that has emerged due to the interruption of coal supplies and rakes for captive power plants, resulting in a dearth of dry-fuel for the aluminium sector.

AAI urge CIL to regularize coal supply

The AAI signified in a letter to Coal India Ltd. (CIL)'s CMD: “This ‘ad-hoc decision’ without advance notice has brought the industry to a standstill with no time to devise mitigation plans to continue sustainable operations.”

AAI urges CIL to normalize coal suplly

“This has reference to the crisis that has developed for the entire aluminium sector due to the recent ad hoc decision for stopping/drastically curtailing the coal supplies and rakes for captive power plants (CPPs) resulting in a coal crunch situation for the aluminium sector,” the letter denoted.

Outlook for the Indian Aluminium Industry

It further stated: “Also, resorting to imports at short notice was not feasible. The aluminium industry’s CPPs have signed fuel supply pacts with CIL and its subsidiaries for assured coal supplies.”
