Mexico-based aluminium auto components supplier Nemak has been accredited by the ASI Performance Standard V3 certification for its facilities in García, Nuevo León. This includes Plants 5 & 6, the Prototype Development Centre, and the Melting Centre of Nemak México. Nemak also achieved the same certification for its facilities in Poland, Slovakia, and Brazil in April.
Knut Bentin, VP of Administration Americas, said, "We are honoured to be the first company based in Mexico to receive the ASI Performance Standard V3 certification. This prestigious recognition not only highlights our commitment to sustainability but also underscores our dedication to our people, customers, and community. It affirms our efforts to lead in creating a sustainable mobility industry. At Nemak, we are driving mobility forward by offering innovative solutions that contribute to a lighter, safer, and more sustainable future for all."
About the Certification
This certification covers facilities within its Nemak Mexico production unit and the Melting Center. These facilities specialize in producing automotive components, focusing on developing and manufacturing aluminium products for e-mobility, vehicle structures and chassis, and internal combustion engine powertrain applications.
The ASI Certification program evolved from thorough multi-stakeholder consultations and is the sole comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative within the aluminium value chain. ASI's Performance Standard V3 (2022) outlines 11 principles and 62 criteria across three sustainability pillars: Environment, Social, and Governance. Its objective is to tackle critical sustainability challenges in the aluminium sector.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, commented, "We congratulate Nemak on achieving Performance Standard Certifications for these three facilities in Nuevo León, Mexico. With the automotive industry's transition towards e-mobility and more efficient combustion engines, these Certifications are a recognition of Nemak's efforts in implementing environmentally and socially responsible policies and processes in its production of aluminium components."
