Capral Aluminium, one of Australia’s leading providers of aluminium products and associated services, has joined the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, aiming at achieving ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard certifications for its operations by mid-2024.
{alcircleadd}As per the report, the company has joined as a Production and Transformation member, representing the first aluminium extruder in Australia to join ASI.
Michael OKeefe, General Manager of Marketing & Technology and head of Sustainability at Capral Aluminium says the company has realized the importance of being acknowledged by the leading industry benchmarks. Certifications from ASI will help them meet sustainability commitments with transparency and credibility, which is fundamentally important for customers and end users of Australian aluminium products.
ASI is a non-profit standard setting and certification organisation for the aluminium value chain that ensures optimum contribution of aluminium to a sustainable society through responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of the metal.
While the ASI Performance Standard certification defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, addressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, Chain of Custody Standard spells out requirements for the maintenance of a Chain of Custody for aluminium.
“Sustainability matters, sustainable material procurement matters, it matters to our business, it matters to our staff, and it matters to our customers. Architects, designers, engineers, manufacturers and trades people are increasingly wanting to know where their Aluminium has come from and that it has been produced in a responsible manner. We are committed to delivering that information to our customers in a credible and transparent way,” says Michael.
