EAFA releases a new video showing advantages of aluminium containers

The European Aluminum Foil Association (EAFA) releases a new video showing the advantages of aluminium containers and infinite recyclability of aluminium. Europe recycles about 65 per cent of all aluminium packaging.  Aluminum foil is the ideal material for food and animal food packaging because of its easy recyclability.

“Because of its properties such as light weight, ease of molding, high heat resistance or excellent barrier properties, the material is ideal for protecting foods from outside influences and reducing food waste at the end of the day", says Peter Wallach, EAFA Container Group Chairman, "It is truly a container for the 21st Century”.

The EAFA Container Group represents more than 80 per cent of the foil container manufacturing capacities in Europe. The group covers manufacturers of foil trays and dishes as well as lidding materials and systems which help their customers, food processors and retailers, pack and present their products to the public.

According to the latest EAFA Container Group Statistics the sector saw +0.6 per cent growth in 2018 compared to 2017 and +1.8 per cent growth in Q1 2019.

"The aluminum foil industry has been actively promoting measures for many years to help its customers further reduce the environmental footprint of their products. Of course, the goal is to further increase recycling rates", says Wallach.

Alufoil trays and semi-rigid containers are used for ready prepared meals, bakery products, pet foods and takeaway foods.

Italy tops the aluminium-shell consumption in Europe with 82.3 million aluminium containers used in kitchen in 2017. In the same period, 351.6 million packaging containers for food and pet food were used in Italy.

About 100,000 tonnes of aluminium containers are consumed in Europe with a scrap value of 1,350 US Dollars which would be worth 135 million US Dollars. About 3,756 million units of pet food containers were sold in Europe in 2017.
