Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) reportedly reunited the nation once again for its 23rd Cycle of the Can Collection Day. More than 200 entities, including various hotels, families, academic institutions, and corporations from Emirates participated in the event and reeled in 4050 kg of aluminium cans for recycling on February 28, 2019. EEG achieved 20 per cent of the target and therefore urged all sectors to achieve the set target of 20,000 kg till December.
{alcircleadd}Appreciating the year on year success of this Can Collection Campaign, Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group, said that over the last 23 years the event saw tremendous growth, also in terms of participation from the UAE society. According to him, EEG managed to collect around 320,400 kg of aluminium cans until now since its inception and this resulted in the mitigation of 4809 MTCO2e, saving of 7777 m3 of landfill space and the conservation of 72,918 million BTU of energy.
EEG believes the Can Collection Drive captures the commitment and passion that the UAE leadership always envisioned our society to attain. So, as a socially responsible organisation accredited with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), it encourages every individual to actively participate in its recycling campaigns that create global impacts.
The campaign’s success was due to the collaboration and commitment of various governments, corporates, and academic institutions, once again highlighting EEG’s attempt to implement UN SDG no 17: Effective Partnerships for Sustainable Development.
