EOS has unveiled an unconventional initiative aimed at minimising material waste and reducing carbon emissions. This comprehensive program encompasses the launch of a polymer take-back program alongside the incorporation of recycled feedstock into its Aluminium AISi10Mg, reinforcing EOS's commitment to environmental responsibility.
EOS has collaborated with Agiplast, a leading specialist in polymer regeneration, to introduce VIRTUCYCLE, an innovative process that converts used polymer materials into high-performance injection moulding granules. Through this partnership, EOS ensures that polymer waste is repurposed, thus contributing to a circular economy model while utilising sustainably sourced energy.
The efficacy of EOS's sustainability endeavours is highlighted by a third-party verified life cycle analysis, which confirms the program's positive environmental impact. With each kilogram of polymer material transformed into 0.945 kilograms of granules, EOS significantly reduces carbon emissions, saving approximately 7 kilograms of CO2e compared to raw material production.
Sophia Heyl, Product Specialist for Metal Materials, commented: "We are striving to create transparency in our carbon footprint for our premium metal materials."
"These externally verified numbers are also providing transparency to our customers," Heyl added.
EOS's commitment extends to its product portfolio, with Aluminium AISi10Mg now incorporating a minimum of 30% recycled feedstock. This strategic enhancement not only reduces CO2e emissions by 25% compared to previous compositions but also maintains the material's superior performance characteristics.
In addition to its pioneering initiatives, EOS offers a diverse range of Responsible Products, including PA 1101 ClimateNeutral biobased products and PA 2200 CarbonReduced materials. These offerings exemplify EOS's dedication to offsetting remaining greenhouse gas emissions and utilising green energy in production processes, thereby furthering its sustainability objectives.
To empower stakeholders to make informed decisions, EOS provides a carbon calculator that evaluates carbon emissions and key cost metrics associated with additive manufacturing projects. This tool enables organisations to optimise their sustainability efforts while achieving operational efficiency.
