European Union imposes up to 31.2% anti-dumping duties on Chinese aluminium extrusions

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

The European Union has reportedly imposed duties on Chinese aluminium products after determining the materials being sold at unfairly low prices. The news came on Tuesday, March 30, after the EU official journal announced that duties to be imposed on Chinese aluminium extrusions in the form of bars, rods, profiles or tubes by the European Commission would range between 21.2 per cent and 31.2 per cent.

These tariffs are lower than the provisional duties of 30.4 per cent to 48 per cent levied midway through the anti-dumping investigation, which opened in February 2020 following a complaint from industry body European Aluminium. Members of European Aluminium include Norsk Hydro, Rio Tinto, and Alcoa.

According to the EU report, Guangdong Haomei NewMaterials Co Ltd and Guangdong King Metal LightAlloy Technology Co Ltd would see duties of 21.2 per cent, while Press Metal International Ltd would face 25 per cent duties.

Other cooperating companies would see charges of 22.1 per cent, while materials from other companies would see 32.1 per cent tariffs.

Previously, China’s metals association called the complaint groundless.

A little more than a week ago, the European Commission also communicated its intention to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on certain aluminium flat-rolled products originating in China. The duty rates are expected to come into effect from April 15, 2021, varying from 19.6 per cent to 47.3 per cent, as a result of an anti-dumping investigation initiated on August 14, 2020.
