In Grande Prairie, Alberta, Nespresso Canada has introduced its Green Bag recycling programme. Through collaboration with Aquatera Utilities Inc., Nespresso Club members who live in the City of Grande Prairie will now have access to this recycling solution. The first municipality in Alberta to use the Green Bag approach is Grande Prairie.
Residents of Grande Prairie are now allowed to dispose of their spent aluminium Nespresso capsules by placing them in a recyclable green bag and setting it next to or on top of their blue bag at the curb. There will be a drop-off location in the city and a curbside collection.
The bags are then delivered to a Nespresso recycling partner after being sent to the sorting centre. The capsules go through a mechanical process to separate the coffee grinds from the aluminium. Coffee grounds are converted into compost utilised on nearby farms, and metal is recycled. Since Nespresso covers all programme costs, neither customers nor local governments will be burdened with additional expenses.
In Canada, there are more than 600 communities that take part in the Green Bag initiative. Nespresso aluminium capsule recycling is made simple and efficient with this collection method, which also aids local governments in achieving their sustainability goals.
"We are excited for the first launch of our recycling solution in Alberta. Since the beginning of 2020, approximately 200 additional municipalities have been able to take advantage of the Green Bag solution, making recycling Nespresso capsules as easy as possible for our customers. This solution is also aligned with the concept of extended producer responsibility while allowing us to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations," said Audrey Rzasa, operations vice-president at Nespresso Canada.
