The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, headquartered Howmet Aerospace Inc. has revealed that its Board of Directors has chosen Gunner Smith, currently holding the position of President - Roofing at Owens Corning, to assume the role of an independent director on the Board, starting from September 29, 2023.

The Company's primary businesses focus on jet engine components, aerospace fastening systems, airframe structural components necessary for mission-critical performance and efficiency in aerospace and defence applications, and forged aluminium wheels for commercial transportation.
John C. Plant, the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "Gunner brings to the Howmet Board extensive business perspectives and manufacturing and sales expertise that will be complementary to our current board and which are highly valued in our evolving, competitive environment."
Smith currently serves as the President of the roofing division at Owens Corning. His appointment to the Owens Corning Executive Committee took place in August 2018. Preceding his role as President, Smith held the position of Vice President for Distribution and Home Center Sales within the roofing business at Owens Corning. Over the decade from 2008 to 2018, he held a range of key positions overseeing sales, marketing, and pricing strategies within the same business unit. Prior to his tenure at Owens Corning, Mr. Smith held the position of National Sales Manager for the Georgia-Pacific brand at PlyGem Siding Group.
Smith's educational background comprises a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mississippi State University. Furthermore, he has continued professional development through programs at The University of Chicago Booth, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, and the Texas McCombs School of Business.
