The fourth largest railway network operator, Indian Railways' East Central Railway (ECR), reported a notable increase in income from all sources, including freight, during the first five months of the current financial year 2024-25. The railway zone's initial revenue reached INR 13,469 crore, marking a 5.75 per cent growth compared to the INR 12,737 crore earned during the same period last year. The East Central Railway (abbreviated ECR) is one of the 19 railway zones in India.
{alcircleadd}From April to August 2024, East Central Railway successfully loaded 83.28 million tonnes of goods, a 2.46 per cent increase from the 81.28 million tonnes loaded in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. This growth underscores the railway's ongoing efforts to enhance its operational efficiency and revenue generation capabilities.
On September 2, 2024, Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway, said, "From the total freight loading done from April to August, East Central Railway got an income of INR 11,151 crore, which is 3.82 per cent more than the income of INR 10,741 crore received from freight loading done during the same period of last financial year."
The CPRO informed that compared to 104 rakes in April - August 2023, 124 rakes of bauxite were loaded by April - August 2024, marking a 19.23 per cent increase.
He reported a significant increase in agricultural commodities like maize and wheat and mineral commodities like bauxite loading between April and August.
