India’s aluminium scrap imports in 3Q2022 increase 14% Q-o-Q despite a monthly fall in September

According to the US Census Bureau data, India imported 41,800 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the United States in September 2022, registering a month-on-month downfall of 4,300 tonnes or 9.33 per cent. In August, the import volume stood at 46,100 tonnes, up by 5,200 tonnes or 12.71 per cent from 40,900 tonnes in July.

Thus, in the three months of Q3 2022, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US totalled 128,800 tonnes, reflecting an increase of 16,100 tonnes or 14.29 per cent from 112,700 tonnes in Q2 2022.

From January to September, India imported 356,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, compared to 295,000 tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year. That reflected a year-on-year increase of 20.68 per cent in India’s aluminium scrap import volume from the US in 9-month time.

In September 2022, the United States exported 170,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, down by 8,000 tonnes or 4.49 per cent month-on-month from 178,000 tonnes but almost restrained year-on-year compared to 171,000 tonnes a year ago.

In the eleven months of 2022, the US exported 1.510 million tonnes of aluminium scrap – 6.2 per cent less than 1.610 million tonnes.
