In the wake of previous successful e-Magazine releases, AlCircle is pleased to announce the launch of its 11th edition of e-Magazine - "European Aluminium Industry Focus 2022." The magazine throws light on the current state of the European Aluminium Market, as well as a detailed study of the future of the European aluminium sector.
Since the middle of 2021, the European aluminium market has been in the news for strong reasons like energy crisis, capacity reduction, supply deficit and production halt. As a result of the power crisis in Europe, manufacturing was reduced or stopped, which resulted in a scarcity of metal and a dramatic price increase.
The cost of European aluminium has risen by roughly 15% since the beginning of 2022, exceeding its previous high of October 2021. Prices have increased by a combination of increased demand following the pandemic and limited aluminium supply because of a power shortfall.
A further hint that European customers are running out of one of the most often used industrial commodities worldwide arises from the unusual trade movements. Historically large stockpiles have drastically decreased internationally, exchange inventories in Europe are at record lows, and output has decreased in the area as a result of rising power prices that have decreased smelting earnings.
The geopolitical unrest in Europe has further decreased the supply of aluminium, hindering shipments from Russia. About 6% of the world's production is exported by Russia, and future sanctions might further reduce this amount. Europe still confronts a severe shortage of vital energy sources in the case of a geopolitical catastrophe. Given that Russia is a commodities powerhouse and the second-largest producer of aluminium in the world after China, American and European sanctions have also exacerbated the problem.
Aluminium's demand is anticipated to rise significantly in the future as it plays a crucial role in the transition to a greener economy. As a result, this increase in aluminium prices is beneficial to non-European foundries. Despite this, the total rise in production volume is constrained or even in jeopardy because of high energy costs and also because of the decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
