Much awaited aluminium-ion batteries by GMG sent to customers for testing

Graphene Manufacturing Group (GMG) has stated that 2032 type coin cell prototypes of its graphene aluminium-ion batteries ("G+AI Battery") have been supplied to many potential clients throughout the world.

According to GMG, coin cell testing has shown that the GMG 2032 type G+AI Battery coin cell prototypes are fully rechargeable in a matter of seconds, retain the capacity for thousands of charge and discharge cycles, are non-flammable, and are nearly totally recyclable. These features outperform ordinary rechargeable Lithium-Ion 2032 type coin batteries, which take 3-6 hours to recharge, are poisonous and may be highly hazardous if consumed, are difficult to recycle, are combustible under certain situations, and deteriorate performance more quickly.

When compared to prior proof of concept prototypes, GMG has announced that further battery research, in partnership with the University of Queensland, has improved the capacity of the G+AI Battery coin cells. The company is also working on improving the technology needed to boost the voltage of the coin cell from 1.7 to 3.4 volts, making the G+AI Battery more suitable for interchangeable usage in existing everyday personal gadgets.

GMG continues to test several grades of graphene from various sources for use in G+AI Batteries in addition to graphene generated by the company. Following additional research, GMG believes the performance characteristics of these prototypes are clear enough to engage potential customers and industry partners for comment on their commercial potential.

"We are very pleased with the technical and commercial progress we have made to date on our G+AI Batteries, and with the level of interest received from potential customers. We look forward to customer feedback on these prototypes, and to progressing towards the commercialization of this impressive battery technology. In parallel we will continue to optimise and improve performance in our newly commissioned pilot plant and start to develop pouch pack formats during 2022 in addition to the coin cell,” said GMG's CEO and Managing Director, Craig Nicol.
