According to the International Aluminium Institute, primary aluminium production in North America during July 2022 continued to decline month-on-month by 6,000 tonnes or 1.92 per cent standing at 306,000 tonnes. The output in June plunged by 13,000 tonnes from 325,000 tonnes in May to 312,000 tonnes.
On a year-on-year calculation, North America’s primary aluminium production in July’22 stood down significantly by 8.10 per cent from 333,000 tonnes.
In the first seven months of the year (January-July), aluminium output in North America totalled 2.195 million tonnes, after being slipped by 5.10 per cent from 2.313 million tonnes during the same period last year.
IAI data also showed a 4.81 per cent monthly drop in the daily average production of primary aluminium in North America from 10,400 tonnes in June to 9,900 tonnes in July 2022. On a yearly basis, the daily output decreased by 7.48 per cent from 10,700 tonnes.
However, in South America, primary aluminium production in July 2022 registered a hike of 8,000 tonnes or 7.77 per cent month-on-month to 111,000 tonnes. In June, the output stood at 103,000 tonnes, reflecting a growth of 2,000 tonnes from 101,000 tonnes in the previous month.
On a year-on-year basis, South America’s primary aluminium production in July 2022 improved by 13.27 per cent from 98,000 tonnes.

During January-July 2022, primary aluminium output in South America totalled 697,000 tonnes, surging by 30,000 tonnes or 4.50 per cent over the year from 667,000 tonnes.
South America’s daily average production in July’22 stood at 3,600 tonnes, up by 200 tonnes from June’22 and 400 tonnes higher than in July’21.
