Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice-president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Ghana, has recently declared that the development of central railway lines in the country will be key in steering forward the upliftment Ghana needs through bauxite and other mineral mining and transportation.

{alcircleadd}"One of my priorities in infrastructure development is railway expansion," Dr Bawumia told stakeholders of the Atwima Mponua Constituency at the start of his Ashanti Regional tour on Monday.
"This is very important for our country because if we are blessed with bauxite but lack sufficient railway lines, it creates a significant challenge. Developing our railways will greatly benefit Ghana," he stated.
He emphasised his intent to develop three main railway lines: 1. from Tema in Greater Accra to Kumasi, 2. from Kumasi to Takoradi, and 3. from Awaasi, via Nyinahin to Eduade. Dr Bawumia also declared that Adum to Akaase's short-distance line is among the railway projects his government will develop.
Dr Bawumia stressed the significance of railway infrastructure in spite of the present stint of roadway construction for vast stretches.
"We are building roads, and that work is still in progress, but I will also focus on railways because that is where real transformation will come from," he stated, "The railway is essential for our country. We will extend it from Accra through Kumasi to the north, enabling us to fully exploit our bauxite, iron ore, and other natural deposits. This is what will drive the transformation we need."
