The renowned development partner and direct supplier to the global automotive industry and a leading international systems provider for security technology, Rheinmetall jointly with its Chinese joint venture KPSNC, has bagged a major order for transmission housings from a world-leading producer of electric vehicles. Millions of transmission housings will be manufactured during the six-year contract.
{alcircleadd}KPSNC, the joint venture of Rheinmetall and its Chinese partner HUAYU Automotive Systems Co Ltd (HASCO) operate in Shanghai and will produce the housings. However, the total order value is in the low three-digit million euro range. Exactly nine months after a recognizable American customer placed the order in March, serial production will start in the middle of 2022. This American company also maintains a large production facility in Shanghai, China’s largest city. These transmission housings will be used in two vehicles from the automaker in the future; they will be made of aluminium alloy and cast via pressure casting.
The continuation of Rheinmetall's systematic expansion in alternative drives is reflected in the order package, which represents another significant success for the company's electromobility strategy. In its role as a trusted partner of the automotive industry for many years, Rheinmetall has contributed significantly to the optimization and perfection of automobiles. This has helped accelerate the ongoing transformation in energy usage.
As a result of the order, Rheinmetall's capacity to develop forward-looking solutions in close collaboration with customers is once again showcased, which further emphasizes the high market potential for electromobility components.
