Rusal, the world's leading aluminium producer, has announced the operating results for the second quarter of 2021, mentioning that its aluminium production totalled 936,000 tonnes. That was up by 0.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 932,000 tonnes. Siberian smelters represented 93 per cent of Rusal’s total aluminium output in 2Q2021.
{alcircleadd}In the first half of 2021, Rusal’s aluminium production stood at 1.868 million tonnes, up 0.1 per cent from 1.867 million tonnes a year ago.
Bratsk aluminium smelter and Krasnoyarsk aluminium smelter produced 251,000 tonnes and 253,000 tonnes of aluminium, respectively, during 2Q2021.
Aluminium sales in 2Q2021 amounted to 1.038 million tonnes- 7.9 per cent higher than 962,000 tonnes in 1Q2021. In the first half of the year, aluminium sales totalled 2 million tonnes, gaining 5.8 per cent from 1.890 million tonnes. The growth was primarily due to low comparison base of 1Q21, when volume of sales was affected by normalization of inventories in delivery pipeline.
Rusal’s aluminium foil and packaging products’ output in 2Q2021 came in at 27,200 tonnes compared to 26,600 tonnes in Q1. In H1 2021, the output stood at 53,800 tonnes, up 9.7 per cent from 49,100 tonnes in H1 2020.
Rusal’s value-added product sales in Q2 2021 stood at 542,000 tonnes – 15.9 per cent higher than 468,000 tonnes in Q1 2021. In the first half of this year, sales totalled 1.010 million tonnes, up 28.6 per cent from 785,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
Europe contributed 40 per cent to the total aluminium sales of Rusal in 2Q2021 in comparison with 42 per cent in 1Q2021. Russia & CIA and Asia contributed 26 per cent each in the June quarter compared to 24 per cent and 26 per cent in the previous quarter.
