SimpsonHaugh is on a journey to construct a 71-storied skyscraper within Manchester’s emerging Great Jackson Street society. The tower’s cladding will display intervals of clear glazing and aluminium panels.
This particular sky-rise is among the five total buildings that the esteemed construction firm has taken the responsibility of materialising within the cluster of 2,388 homes spread along the two plots at the centre of the neighbourhood.
With constant support from developer Renaker, the programme would encompass around four towers at each corner of a new public square at the core of the Great Jackson Street masterplan known as Crown Street Phase 3.
The developer claims: ‘The tower’s curtain walling will feature a chequerboard pattern composed of alternating panels of clear vision glazing and solid aluminium panels with a perforated aluminium finish.”
“The top of the building will feature greater expanses of glazing within an expressed grid, define the lantern and offer panoramic views of the city and beyond,” it was added to the statement.
The use of aluminium can be deemed the most intelligent decision as the non-ferrous metal is infinitely recyclable, making the construction an epitome of sustainability. Moreover, aluminium claddings or fenestrations are more attractive and modernist to look at than the most commonly used wooden counterparts. In fact, aluminium claddings are more durable than any other available options other than steel.
Renaker has posted the public consultation documents that amplify how the design of the 71-storey tower ‘takes inspiration from a lighthouse’ if people get a glimpse from the south.
Renaker has attested designs of 4,000 homes streamlined for the Great Jackson Street area, like SimpsonHaugh’s 67-storied tower at Deansgate Square – at present the highest point in Manchester.
In 2021, Hodder + Partners acquired the planning permission for almost 1,000 houses across two 56-story high-rises at 34 Great Jackson Street. SimpsonHaugh will be required to submit a fully elaborate proposal by the end of the week.
