Capral Aluminium is excited to announce the upcoming trials of Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) 's EternAl-30 and EternAl-15 primary aluminium billets, which feature 30 per cent and 15 per cent recycled content.
The groundbreaking low-carbon aluminium product
This significant introduction into the Australian aluminium sector aims to establish pioneering carbon reduction and recycled material usage standards. This initiative underscores Capral's steadfast commitment to sustainability and innovation, affirming the pledge to deliver superior, environmentally conscious aluminium solutions to manufacturers across Australia.
Alba's Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali stated, "This groundbreaking low-carbon aluminium product marks a major milestone in our journey towards a sustainable future, not just for Alba, but across the entire supply chain. By utilising up to 30% recycled scrap metal, we're not only minimising our environmental footprint but also empowering our partners and customers like Capral to make a significant contribution to achieving their own sustainability goals. This innovation paves the way for a more sustainable future in the aluminium industry, one where every step of the supply chain can be part of the solution."
One of aluminium's significant advantages is its capacity for infinite recycling. Until now, Capral has not been able to source primary aluminium billets that consistently include recycled content. With trials scheduled for this month, the Capral team is optimistic about delivering recycled content in its extruded products later this year.
Alba's EternAl line
Alba's EternAl line introduces primary aluminium billets with substantial recycled content, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of aluminium production. Recycling aluminium can cut energy consumption by up to 95 per cent compared to processing raw materials, substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
This process conserves natural resources, minimises waste, and promotes a circular economy by maintaining materials in continuous use. Such sustainable practices mitigate environmental impact and deliver economic benefits, establishing aluminium recycling as a pivotal strategy in addressing climate change and bolstering industry sustainability.
"We launched our LocAl offer in 2023 in response to market demands for lower carbon aluminium options. This has been a great initiative, and we know it has driven change within the domestic aluminium market, but it's not enough. Australian manufacturers in a range of sectors are looking for locally produced aluminium extrusion containing recycled content, and we have been proactively working with our supply partners to reliably source aluminium billet, which would allow us to deliver this solution to the Australian Market," added Luke Hawkins, General Manager of Capral Industrial Division and Supply Chain.
About the upcoming trials
At Capral, sustainability is integral to every aspect of their operations. Acknowledging the urgent need to combat climate change, Capral is dedicated to creating a positive impact through its processes and products. Alba's EternAL exemplifies this commitment by enabling Capral to supply lower-carbon aluminium with recycled content to various Australian manufacturing industries, including Marine, Defence, Transport, Construction, Signage, and General Fabrication.
The upcoming trials of Alba's EternAL are only the start. Capral is eager about this product's potential to transform the Australian aluminium market and establish fresh sustainability standards. Looking ahead, Capral will persist in exploring inventive approaches to minimise environmental impact and assist customers on their sustainability paths.
