Aluminium imports by the US for consumption stood at 563,000 tonnes in January-February 2020, down 39.79% from 935,000 tonnes in January-February 2019, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. In February, the US imported 238,000 tonnes of aluminium, a decrease of 46.76% from 447,000 tonnes in February 2019.
The US imports of crude metal and alloys decreased 26.76% year-on-year to stand at 208,000 tonnes in February 2020. Crude metal and alloys import were 284,000 tonnes in February 2019. On a month on month basis, imports dropped 40% from 347,000 tonnes.
In the first two months of 2020, the US imported 494,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys as compared to 583,000 tonnes in the first two months of 2019, which indicates a 15.27% decrease year-on-year.
On the export side, exports of crude metal and alloys rose 2.15% year-on-year and 14.46% month-on-month. Exports came in at 19,000 tonnes in February 2020.
The US exported 35,600 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in January-February 2020, from 40,800 tonnes exported in January-February 2019. This records a drop of 12.75% on the year.
