The US crude metal and alloys imports drop 37% YoY in nine-month period

The US imports of crude metal and alloys fell 82.78% or 259,100 tonnes year-on-year to 53,900 tonnes in September 2019, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. The US had imported 313,000 tonnes in September 2018.

Crude metal and alloys imports dropped by 26.96% from August’s imports of 73,800 and 40.9% from July’s imports of 91,200 tonnes.

The US imported 2,030,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in the first nine months of 2019, as compared to 3,230,000 in the first nine months of 2018. This marked a decrease of 37.15% or 1,200,000 tonnes.

On the export side, the US exported 17,400 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in September, down 24.35% from 23,000 tonnes in September 2018 and 9.38% from 19,200 tonnes in August 2019. In January-September, exports of these products stood at 178,000 tonnes, representing a decrease of 21.59% year-on-year. The US had exported 227,000 tonnes in January-September 2018.
