The United Arab Emirates, one of the top aluminium exporters to the US, accounted for 10% of all aluminium imports by the US during the first nine months of 2018. The UAE exported 460,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products and scrap to the US during January-September 2018, down 14% from 534,000 tonnes during January-September 2017.

{alcircleadd}Total aluminium exports by the UAE stood at 43,700 tonnes in September 2018, down 3% from 45,200 tonnes in September 2017, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.
Exports of crude metal and alloys stood at 456,000 tonnes during January-September 2018, down 75000 tonnes from January-September 2017 volume of 531,000 tonnes. In September 2018, the volume stood at 43,000 tonnes.
Semi-fabricated products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) exports to the USA increased to 1,910 tonnes in the first nine months of 2018, as compared to 173 tonnes in the first nine months of 2017.
Exports of aluminium scrap dropped 42% year on year to 1,700 tonnes. The UAE had exported 2,910 tonnes of aluminium scrap during January- September 2017.
The UAE is asking the US to exempt it from President Donald Trump’s blanket 10-percent tariffs on aluminium imports. The country’s Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri last month said that his country would resolve aluminium and steel tariffs with U.S. as the balance of trade is in favour of the United States.
During January-September 2018, the total aluminium imports by the US for consumption stood at 4.81 million, down 9% from 5.27 million tonnes During January-September 2017.
