Nottingham-based planning consultancy Nineteen47 has successfully guided UK-based aluminium trade extruder Garnalex in obtaining approval for a new 350,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Ashfield. With offices in Nottingham, Sheffield, and York, Nineteen47 played a key role in preparing a hybrid planning application, which involved coordinating a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and providing 3D visualisation services.

The approved development covers 1,000,500 sq ft across a 23.75-hectare site. Phase one will see the construction of the new factory, while phase two will accommodate further Garnalex facilities. Upon completion of both phases, the project is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs.

Situated southeast of Junction 27 of the M1, the proposals lie within the green belt and have been thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape. The plans include extensive tree planting and bunding to provide adequate screening. Additionally, a comprehensive landscape scheme will enhance the area's ecological value, resulting in an 11 per cent increase in biodiversity net gain, including a 68 per cent boost in hedgerow units.
