Uzbekistan’s aluminium cans manufacturing unit to reduce dependency on imported aluminium packaging

A new state-of-the-art aluminium cans manufacturing and beverage bottling plant is set to begin operations in Uzbekistan. Backed by East Can Solutions, a foreign-invested enterprise, the upcoming facility is expected to begin operations in June 2025.

With a total investment of $90 million, including an $18 million loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the plant aims to reduce reliance on imported aluminium packaging while opening new opportunities for the country to access international markets. This will also drive export growth.

Around 30 per cent of the plant's output will be supplied to Russia, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries, with potential annual export revenues reaching $50 million. Located within the "Yangi Avlod" Free Economic Zone in Tashkent, the facility is expected to create up to 500 jobs. Spanning 21 hectares, the production complex will dedicate 100,000 square meters to the manufacturing zone.

In its initial phase, the plant will produce 1.1 billion aluminium cans annually, with plans to double capacity to 2.2 billion units per year. The facility will also feature a beverage bottling line capable of producing up to 650.9 million units annually in aluminium and PET packaging.  

The project places a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, leveraging aluminium containers' exceptional recyclability to provide an eco-friendly packaging solution. The facility will serve the Uzbek market with high-quality products while also appealing to international brands looking for local production or packaging services.

The project will utilise state-of-the-art equipment from the United States and Europe, with a high degree of automation. The production process will comply with strict environmental standards, and the use of 100 per cent recyclable aluminium cans will contribute to reducing the facility's ecological footprint.
