Muscat Trailers is more than just a manufacturer of transport solutions; it's a business built on passion, innovation, and a deep commitment to quality. For nearly 50 years, Muscat has been crafting trailers that stand the test of time, supporting industries such as mining, sand and gravel cartage, and heavy logistics. At the helm of this legacy is Troy Azzopardi, CEO of Muscat Trailers, who has been immersed in the business since childhood.
"I just love trailers," Troy says. "We try to create a bit of an experience and give customers their own unique touch. There's always a story behind a trailer—who we built it for, where it's going—so there's more to it than just what you see."
Founded by Maurice Azzopardi, Troy's father, in partnership with Paul Muscat, the company has grown significantly while maintaining its core values. Troy's early memories of the business are ones of excitement and curiosity. "When I was four or five, I always wanted my welder, and my dad made a little one for me. Santa brought it to me, and from then on, I was hooked," he recalls. Spending school holidays in the workshop, Troy naturally developed a love for the trade, leading him to take the company's reins today.
Muscat Trailers is not a high-volume manufacturer, and that's intentional. The company prioritises quality and customer-specific design over mass production. "We try to do things just a little bit different, in a unique way to each customer," Troy explains. "Our engineers design everything on a 3D model, then transfer those models into drawings. From there, the drawings go to our workshop supervisors across different sections: steel, aluminium, fit-out, and installation. Each part comes together, and then the trailer heads out the door."
This attention to detail and structured process ensures that every Muscat trailer meets rigorous standards and provides long-term value to its owner. Each trailer typically incorporates around two and a half tonnes of aluminium, a material integral to Muscat's designs due to its strength, durability, and lightweight properties.
A key part of Muscat's success is its strong relationship with Capral Aluminium. "Capral has been a very integral part of our product pretty much from the beginning," Troy says. "We've built a really good long-term relationship. Aluminium and extrusion are a big chunk of our trailers, and Capral has been one of our key suppliers."
What sets Muscat Trailers apart isn't just their build quality—it's their signature design elements. "We have a lot of exclusive sections that we've worked with Capral's engineers to develop, giving us a unique and distinct footprint in the market," Troy explains. "If you look at a Muscat trailer, you'll see the ripples in the side of the extrusions. That's unique to us. It's like our tattoo."
This distinct design has become a hallmark of Muscat’s trailers, instantly recognisable and synonymous with durability and reliability.
Capral not only supplies Muscat with extruded aluminium profiles but also provides a range of rolled aluminium products, including plate, sheet, and treadplate. These materials are essential in various components of Muscat’s trailers, ensuring durability and performance while maintaining the lightweight advantages of aluminium. This diverse supply capability allows Muscat to optimise their designs with the right materials for each application, enhancing functionality and aesthetic appeal.
One of the standout benefits of working with Capral is their ability to adapt to Muscat’s needs. “Working with your suppliers to have the ability, when you need them, to be adaptive—that’s important,” Troy notes. “Capral is good at that. We have around 30 to 40 different dies, and most sections are extruded in Campbellfield in Victoria and now in Penrith. They hold stock, which gives us the ability to forecast and plan our work, knowing that the material will be there when we need it.”
This reliable supply chain has allowed Muscat to maintain consistent production without delays, ensuring that customers receive their trailers on time and to specification. For Troy and the team at Muscat, success is about more than just the product—it’s about the people behind it. “You’re really only as good as your people,” Troy says. “That’s basically the way I feel. The team’s really good, and we’re consistently building a great product. We get customers who truly engage with us and say thank you.”
The hands-on approach to manufacturing, coupled with a relentless pursuit of excellence, continues to define Muscat Trailers. “We just want to make quality trailers. It’s really that simple.”
With a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and strong supplier relationships, Muscat Trailers remains a leader in the transport industry, delivering trailers that are not just built for the road but for the long haul. Their partnership with Capral Aluminium ensures they have access to high-quality materials and reliable supply, helping them continue to push the boundaries of trailer manufacturing in Australia.
