Marine Air Flow International has opted for sustainability in its filtration systems, which remove salt mist particles from the air. The company, well-versed in engine ventilation equipment manufacturing, has collaborated with Capral to use the latter brand’s LocAl Super Green extruded products to manufacture many of their components within a carefully engineered and high-performance solutions range.

In 2022, Capral unveiled LocAl, its low-carbon aluminium solution with a lump sum reduction of CO2 emissions, as low as 4kg CO2e per 1kg of aluminium as opposed to the industry average of 12.46kg CO2e per 1kg. As per Capral’s official statement earlier, in 2024, 25 per cent of the primary aluminium billet (a major source of extruded aluminium) Capral Aluminium procures was estimated to have carbon emissions of less than 8kg CO2e/1kgAl, with approximately 300 tonnes having certified carbon content of less than 4kg CO2e/1kg Al.3

Blake Highland, Production Manager for Marine Air Flow International, commented with an acknowledgement of the strategic importance of the shift, “We’ve had a very longstanding relationship with Capral; they provide several custom extrusions for us to use in our proprietary designs.”

Local Super Green products offer the advantages of high-performance aluminium, such as corrosion resistance, strength, durability, and versatility, while reducing the environmental impact typically associated with aluminium production. With the growing global demand for greener products, LocAl Super Green provides companies with a competitive edge, allowing them to meet market expectations for sustainability without sacrificing quality or performance.

Capral supplies the LocAl® product at a slight premium, for most businesses, the cost impact revolving around switching to LocAl® across their product range is minimal.

“We wanted to make sure we could calculate the extra costs involved with using Super Green, and that’s when we saw the benefit in the long term, we recognised that the shift would not only enhance our sustainability efforts but also strengthen our position as an industry leader,” additionally conveyed Blake.

Capral has mentioned that Marine Air Flow International’s progress in sustainable innovation has been well-received in the national industrial circle. Marine Air Flow International has received the Small Business Award at the Australian Export Awards, honouring its international growth, and the Gold Coast Business Excellence Award in June 2024, recognising its contributions to the local economy.

All in all, Marine Air Flow International’s partnership with Capral further promotes the strength of collaboration between specialist manufacturers and leading suppliers. As the manufacturer commences to use Capral’s LocAl® Super Green extrusion, Marine Air Flow is surely to follow the right track in ensuring quality and performance of its engine ventilation systems and demonstrates its commitment to sustainability, placing Marine Air Flow in an immaculate position to lead the way in an increasingly environmentally conscious global market, and securing long-term success and reinforcing its repertoire as a niche leader in its field.

Meanwhile, on January 20, 2025, Australia’s prime minister Anthony Albanese declared an AU$ 2 billion (US$1.24 billion) investment strategy to foster the Australian aluminium production journey towards a greener future. Aluminium smelters transitioning to renewable power, with every tonne of the metal produced using renewable electricity over a 10-year period to 2036, is deemed to fall under the payment scheme of the funding.
