Ball Corporation has recently bagged a new project to design and produce aluminium cans for Icelandic brewery Ölgerðin’s iconic Ava fruit water drinks. The drinking cans will be available in Ball Corporation’s 33- centilitre standard format, with designs featuring popular HD printing technique.
Ölgerðin, the oldest producer of beer and soft drinks in Iceland, has always been deeply rooted in sustainability. Looking out for new ways to increase its sustainability credentials, Ölgerðin decided to update its packaging material to a new format that has less impact on the environment. And since aluminium cans are the most sustainable form of packaging, Ölgerðin looked in on Ball Corporation.
The use of Ball’s HD printing technique will allow Ava to highlight the ingredients of the beverage, providing vibrancy to the colours of the fruits featured in the design. This will make the packaging stand out while helping Ölgerðin meeting consumers’ demand for more eco-friendly options in drinking packages.
Jóhannes Páll Sigurðarson, brand manager at Ölgerðin, said: “As activists for sustainability, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our footprint and refreshing our packaging was the natural next step to achieve this. By working together with Ball we’ve not only been able to tick this box with the introduction of a sustainable new 33-centilitre can format, we’ve also gained access to its experts’ valuable insight and guidance into how best to create our design on a can.”
Christian Nilsson, sales manager Nordics, from Ball, added: “We really appreciate working together with beverage companies like Ölgerðin who want to embrace their sustainability credentials and truly make a difference to the environment. With canned water more popular than ever, it’s exciting to work with another customer who shares our values and wants to make the move to the favoured can format.”
