Following the launch of its Topstone Carbon bike in April, Cannondale is ready to reveal its Topstone Alloy gravel bike. Cannondale claims that the Topstone Alloy “distils the spirit of the Topstone Carbon into a rugged, ever-ready aluminium frame.” The new aluminium model may carry all the shades of its carbon counterpart but is more affordable than its predecessor.
{alcircleadd}Cannondale has run extensive tests on the Topstone Alloy range to achieve a well-attested geometry for the bike for more riding stability during adventurous sporting or bike-packing. Cannondale also stated that the bike is perfect for basic travelling purposes as well.
There are endless similarities between the two Topstone models, the carbon and the aluminium frame bikes. Both the Cannondale bikes have a tyre clearance till 700x45c rubber. The Topstone Alloy features mudguard eyes to give the rider more ease while riding and with fenders aligned it can run on 40mm tyres.
The Topstone Alloy has threaded BSA BB along with a threaded bottom bracket shell to cope with the heightening number of thumbs down for the press-fit system. The Topstone Alloy flaunts its innovative carbon fork but the bike can be compared with Cannondale’s Lefty Oliver and other gravel forks. Both the Carbon and aluminium bikes are constructed to house an internally mapped 27.2 dropper seat-post.
Cannondale’s Topstone Alloy has successfully reached all its goals as it was developed “with simplicity, ease of use and compatibility in mind”. Not going by the pictures published in the press release, Cannondale characterises Topstones Alloy to have “many gears and water bottle mounts on the frame and fork” which makes it ‘adventure ready'.
The Topstone Alloy has more elongated chainstays and wheelbases than the Carbon model and this is where the difference remains. Though this is a brand new model, Cannondale has successfully cloned the features of the outgoing Topstone alloy perfectly on it.
Even after the minor changes along the design of the Topstone Carbon and alloy, the stack and the reach are similar in both bikes of all five sizes. The Topstone Alloy doesn’t yet come with the SmartSense feature flagship to the company but is compatible with the application.
SmartSense first made its appearance with the Synapse Carbon range and is Cannondale’s latest system of in-built lighting and rear-facing radar. Being a smart bike, the Topstone Alloy also has Cannondale’s integrated wheel sensor that provides ‘hyper-accurate ride information such as speed, distance and route info while you ride’, according to Cannondale.
Through Cannondale’s integrated services, the aluminium bike can be registered and the user would be reminded of services and more.
