According to a report on Wednesday, July 14, construction on Heesen’s 57-metre, all-aluminium superyacht project Akira is due to begin this year. The news came after the yard announced the yacht, which was first revealed at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show, would begin construction at Heesen’s Oss shipyard in the autumn.
“We see great potential for this new model," said Arthur Brouwer, Heesen's chief executive. “Akira is the only 57-metre, all-aluminium fast motor yacht with a Northern European pedigree available for delivery in spring 2024."
This four-deck yacht is the first model in Heesen’s 5700 Aluminium class. Its exterior design is penned by Frank Laupman’s Omega Architects and interior by Harrison Eidsgaard.
Built from an aluminium hull, the exterior features a “shapely silhouette” with an “elongated profile” and new “scoop-shaped stern,” according to the yard. Extensive structural and decorative glass is a key focus of the exterior design.
Frank Laupman of Omega Architects said: “We added a touch of aggression by way of sharp angles. The overall effect is the look of a leaping animal.”
Speaking about the design, co-founder of Harrison Eidsgaard Ben Harrison said, “The whole premise of the design is about the view – indoor-outdoor living is the primary driver.”
The total accommodation capacity of the yacht is for 12 guests in a full 10.3 metre beam owner’s stateroom and five guest cabins. The crew quarters meanwhile allow 13 staff.
Power will come from a pair of MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines for a top speed of 22 knots and range of 4,400 nautical miles at 12 knots.
