Crealis, a global leader in providing closure solutions for still and sparkling wines, spirits, beers, olive oil and vinegar, has launched 'Symbiosis', the next generation of foils. Primarily crafted from FSC-certified paper and aluminium, this innovation marks the phase-out of plastic in sparkling foils, with paper and aluminium now taking centre stage in a new era of eco-friendly closure solutions.
{alcircleadd}Derived from the Greek words "syn" (together) and "bios" (life), "Symbiosis" emphasises the harmonious and lasting relationship between two high-value materials: paper and aluminium. These Symbiosis foils will make their debut at Luxe Pack in Monaco (September 30 - October 2) and will subsequently be showcased at various events across Europe and beyond.
44% aluminium and 48% paper
This breakthrough offers an eco-friendly solution, reinforcing the Group's commitment to sustainability. Symbiosis moves away from the traditional three-layer structure of sparkling foils (Alu/PE/Alu), boasting an innovative composition of 44 per cent aluminium and 48 per cent paper. With its European Recycling Code C/PAP82, it can be easily disposed of in paper recycling bins across Europe or collected with paper waste.
Symbiosis delivers a 30 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to foils made from Derma75, and a 15 per cent reduction compared to the already improved Derma75 L, further enhancing its environmental impact.
"This product is extraordinary not only for the quality of its materials, but also because it is the first sparkling foil primarily made of paper and available on an industrial scale, using existing bottling lines. Symbiosis is sustainable and feasible- a concrete solution now available to the market. Like all our products, Symbiosis is highly customisable and compatible with automatic bottling lines," explained Michele Moglia, CEO of Crealis.
