For many years now, Europe is continuously innovating ways to optimise aluminium production while reducing carbon emissions. Whether by implementing advanced technologies, switching to renewable energy sources, or boosting recycling efforts, Europe's focus is dedicated to sustainable aluminium production. European aluminium industrial leaders have spoken about all these practices in AL Circle's latest e-Magazine titled 'ALuminium Industry: Focus Europe', highlighting technological developments to produce aluminium with the lowest energy consumption and human interference and about their recycling initiatives to build closed-loop recycling and circular economy within the aluminium landscape.

Here’s what European aluminium leaders have further said about technology, digitalisation, and circular economy!

Thomas Payer, Sustainability Manager of Speira, a leading European aluminium rolling and recycling company, has explained in our e-magazine how his company has been balancing sustainability and transparency, believing these two are the strong pillars for the persistent growth of the aluminium industry. Consistently and transparently, they are focusing on the research and development of sustainable solutions to push the boundaries of aluminium production. Talking about their two certified labels for sustainable solutions – ORBIS and RIVOS, Thomas says they are a testament to Speira's commitment to building a circular world within the industry. Recycling aluminium waste is another popular way emerged in the European aluminium industry to produce greener metal or raw material. An article jointly contributed by BEFESA and Insertec in AL Circle's "ALuminium Industry: Focus Europe' e-Magazine has spoken about it, wherein Jessica Montero Garcia, R&D Manager at Befesa Aluminio, and Jonan Agirre Zabala, Manager Director at Insertec, have briefed about their newly researched process to transform hazardous waste salt slags into by-products, such as aluminium concentrates, flux salts, ammonium sulfate, and secondary aluminium oxide. To know about the process and by-products, read the entire article here.

Digitalisation and automation play a crucial role in optimising aluminium production, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions. Marty DeGoey, Senior Application Engineer, EPIQ Machinery, says: "automation is gaining territory in all sectors of an aluminium plant." In this modern world, everything can be automated in billet production facilities, from the casting machine to packaged billets. This is where EPIQ Machinery contributes by providing material handling equipment for extrusion billets, including homogenising and sawing operations.

In the current market, there is also no substitute for advanced technologies. They are the game-changers in every manufacturing industry, including the aluminium value chain. IB2 Alumina Refining has brought a breakthrough in refinery technology. In an article published in AL Circle's e-Magazine, the company has explained the technology, how it works, and its potential benefits. The technology simply offers a revolutionary solution for an improved Bayer process to enhance the production of alumina from low-grade bauxite ore.
