Hydro's aluminium recycling facility, based in Wrexham, has reached yet another safety milestone. This week marks the fifth anniversary of the company operating without an accident.
{alcircleadd}Wayne Clifton, Managing Director, praised the hard work and commitment of the workforce, "Reaching five years accident-free is an excellent achievement made possible by our highly skilled and dedicated team".
"At Hydro, safety is our number one priority, and a strong safety performance gives us our licence to operate and grow as a company", he added.
Norsk Hydro invested a further £2.4 million this year in Wrexham to increase production capacity to 70,000 tonnes. The company has grown its skilled workforce, including introducing an engineering apprenticeship program through Coleg Cambria.
The Managing Director said “None of this would have been possible without demonstrating that we have a safe workplace.”
Since the company developed its well-being policy in recent years, it has extended the concept of safety at the plant to incorporate all four pillars.
Tracey Doyle, a team member said, “Not only do we focus on the physical aspect of health & safety, but other equally important elements such as mental, social and financial wellbeing. This balanced approach, together with the commitment of the entire team, has contributed to our impressive safety record.”
A long list of achievements awaits this safety-conscious company, which proudly displays the Welsh flag at group events and awards.
As the largest recycler of aluminium in Wales, Hydro's Wrexham facility is leading the low-carbon agenda with their brand Hydro CIRCAL 75R.
Using a minimum of 75% recycled, post-consumer aluminium scrap, Hydro CIRCAL is Hydro's proprietary brand of recycled aluminium. It leads the market with a CO2 footprint of only 2.3 kg CO2/kg aluminium or less.
